Regular maintenance will help keep your sauna looking great and functioning at its best:
Oil the exterior of your sauna at least twice a year (or as needed). Allow around 1–1.5 hours for this task. We recommend Dryden Wood Oil – tinted in Lite Oak.
Replace sauna stones every 1–2 years, depending on usage, and re-stack them occasionally to maintain airflow and efficiency.
For electric models, vacuum loose debris from the bottom of the heater every so often.
For woodfired models, sweep the chimney occasionally and empty the ash drawer as needed.
Keep your sauna clean by regularly removing debris. A handheld wireless vacuum is perfect for getting into corners and preventing dirt buildup.
Clean the panoramic dome using a very soft microfibre cloth and hot water with a mild detergent, such as EcoStore. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
We don’t have a physical showroom — it’s one of the ways we keep our overheads low so we can keep our saunas at a more accessible price point. We operate online only, but we’re here to answer any questions you may have to help you make a confident, informed decision.
We do have saunas available to view by appointment in Franz Josef Glacier (West Coast) and Wānaka — just get in touch if you'd like to arrange a viewing.
We use spliced clear-grade cedar. This means that smaller sections of virtually knot-free cedar are expertly joined together (often referred to as finger-jointed) to form each board. The result is a clean, consistent finish and no large knots, cracks or imperfections. Compared to full length knotty cedar, it reduces warping and twisting over time, enhances dimensional stability and allows us to make the most of clear cedar offcuts, using the entire cedar tree, reducing waste which lowers the manufacturing costs, allowing us to deliver a refined, durable sauna at a more accessible price point compared to full length clean cedar - while remaining committed to quality, performance and sustainability.
Pre-ordering allows you to secure an item that hasn’t yet arrived in our warehouse. Your order reserves stock from an incoming shipment and we’ll dispatch it to you as soon as it lands. Some shipments sell out before they even arrive, so placing a pre-order is the best way to avoid missing out and securing the exact model of sauna you would like. Ask our friendly sales team about our pre-order deal - a little reward we offer customers to make up for the wait time!
Yes — but externally only. We recommend using Dryden Wood Oil, which is specifically formulated for New Zealand conditions and ideal for cedar.
Do not use any product that contains stain. Stains create a surface layer that traps moisture, while oil penetrates the timber, protecting it from the inside out.
Your sauna needs a level, stable, and well-drained platform to sit on. Common base options include a concrete pad, timber decking, compacted gravel, sleepers or pavers — as long as the surface is flat and can support the weight (450–700kg, depending on the model).
Good drainage is key to prevent moisture buildup under the sauna, and airflow underneath (if raised) can also help prolong the life of the timber.
If you're unsure what's best for your site, feel free to contact us — we're happy to help you plan the perfect base.
Panorama Saunas are designed for private residential use. Any setting where the public or paying guests use the sauna is outside the scope of our standard warranty. Using the sauna commercially without our written approval may void all warranty claims.
Fit-for-Purpose Assessment
Commercial environments vary widely in temperature cycles, user turnover and maintenance demands. It is the purchaser’s responsibility to determine if the product is fit for the intended commercial application.
In short, while many businesses successfully operate our saunas, commercial use varies widely.
